Honestly in college I want to be a deep learner. I want to learn everything I possibly can about a subject so I can apply it everyday. One thing I learned from my high school AP Physics class is that I truly do enjoy deep learning. In that class we never learned what we were "supposed to", instead we would have discussions that deviated from the main lesson. But these diversions weren't about random things, they were about physics and went more in-depth than the lesson was supposed to go. So even though in that class nobody did well on the AP exam, or any other exam in general, I came out with a solid understanding of physics as a whole and still to this day use it in my everyday life. Did you know that OTIS brand elevators are the safest in the world because of the physics behind them? Apparently, according to my HS teacher, that they not only have an advanced system of pulleys and ridiculously strong types of cables, but they also have three backup mechanisms for stopping the elevator. So basically there are three failsafe’s that are in place just in case the elevators pulley systems failed. This was one of the many random things we learned that actually have some relevance to life and are a lot more interesting than straight textbook readings.

If I learned anything from Cedric, it’s that hard work and deep learning are definitely worth it. Coming from such a bad situation and still being able to excel and accomplish his life goals is an inspiration. If he can do it, coming from such a hard life, why can’t I? I know I’m studying a very hard topic and want nothing more than to get a job in a very competitive field. But knowing all the odds that Cedric had to battle, I know I can do it too.

I want to be a deep learner because I really do enjoy Chemistry. I am currently majoring in Forensic Chemistry and I love everything about it. I don't want to just learn the facts in order to ace the test, although that would be nice, I want to learn every little bit about it too. I want to leave college and know that I am the most qualified for my job because I know and understand the most. Although a really difficult path to continue on, I know my passion for it will only grow over time.

Being a deep learner is very important to me. I know that taking that little bit of extra time to learn all the background knowledge and extra facts I can, I can excel in Chemistry and eventually all the work will be worth it. I want to be like Cedric one day and be able to look back on my younger life and know that I worked as hard as I could.
